A stretch tent is, as the name suggests, a tent with a flexible canopy that can be stretched and shaped in various ways. Unlike many traditional event tents, it does not need to be set up in a specific shape. Instead, the tent’s appearance depends on the location, size, and how the canopy is rigged.
What is a stretch tent?
A stretch tent consists of a flexible tent fabric that is stretched out using poles and anchor points. By placing the poles at different heights, the fabric can be shaped to achieve its characteristic undulating appearance.
This means that the tent's shape isn't entirely predetermined. The same tent fabric can be set up in different ways depending on the area to be covered and the look you want to create.
What's the difference between this and a regular event tent?
A traditional event tent typically has a more rigid structure, in which the tent's shape is determined by the frame. This results in straight lines and a clearly defined space.
With astretch tent, however, it is the tent fabric and the rigging that determine the shape. This allows for greater freedom to adapt the tent to its surroundings and means that two setups can look quite different, even if the same type of tent is used.
The difference is also noticeable when you're inside the tent. The high and low points in the fabric create variation in ceiling height and give the stretch tent a more open feel.
The design is tailored to the location
A major advantage of a stretch tent is that it allows you to make the most of the site’s natural features rather than trying to make the site fit the tent.
Stretch tents can be set up on slopes, for example, and adapted to fit around trees, pillars, and other obstacles. They can stand completely freestanding, but can also be rigged together with existing buildings and structures.
This means that stretch tents can be used in locations where a traditional event tent isn't always as easy to set up.
Open when the weather permits, more sheltered when needed
The sides of a stretch tent can be set up high to create an open feel or pulled down lower to provide more shelter. How the tent is set up can therefore be adapted to both the location and the conditions at the time.
This makes it possible to create an open space when the weather permits and a more sheltered environment when needed.
When is a stretch tent a good choice?
Stretch tents are used for everything from weddings and festivals to corporate events, restaurants, and other outdoor settings. Above all, they are ideal when you want weather protection that can be adapted to the location without giving the impression of a traditional event tent.
