When you combine a wedding and a festival, pure magic happens! We were lucky enough to be part of this inspiring WEDFEST in South Africa, created by Emily Lockhart Wedding & Event Coordination a few weeks ago. We were so inspired by this unforgettable and unique experience that we want to share our WEDFEST experience with you!
Driving through the lush green hills of Underberg, South Africa, you will come across a picturesque glamping village. The canvas tents are equipped with foam mattresses, bedding, and a night light, with nice touches such as glass bottles of water and snacks on the bedside tables.
After settling into your luxurious glamping tent, you start walking towards the WEDFEST area. You are welcomed by a friendly gentleman in steampunk clothing who gives you a festival wristband, an enamel mug, and food vouchers. The festival area is equipped with deck chairs, fire pits, hammocks, and crocheted teepee tents.
We follow the inviting acoustic tones from the chino-colored stretch tent. It's a live band! An awesome duo performing a mix of indie covers and other genres. We grab a drink from the bar (with our enamel mugs) and sit down on giant floor cushions scattered around handmade stools.
The spectacular wedding party has made its entrance and dances merrily as they make their way to the head table. We laugh, cry, and listen attentively to the very special and carefully crafted speeches given by friends and family members. Meals are served between speeches. When we say served, it is definitely not in the traditional way... OF COURSE NOT! No, guests take their meal vouchers to a beautifully designed Mexican seafood stand to pick up their appetizers and main courses by handing over their meal vouchers to the waiters and waitresses behind the stands. For dessert, there is a crêpe stand serving delicious crêpes drenched in chocolate sauce and fresh fruit, which can be paired with a nice cup of coffee from the coffee cart.
Once all the formalities are over, guests dance the night away under the colourfully lit chino stretch tent to songs performed by more live bands.
When we wake up the next day, it's not time to pack our bags and say goodbye. WEDFEST doesn't end here! There's a whole day and evening of activities planned, including breakfast by the river, swimming in the river, mountain hikes, sunset drinks on top of a hill, and an evening barbecue before we retreat to our luxurious tents one last time.
As we drive home the next day, we reflect on two full days of pure magic and creativity, the new friends we have made, the old friends we have reunited with, and the overflowing joy, happiness, and love shared by the bride and groom. WEDFEST was not just a wedding, but a two-day adventure!
